Netiquette Defined - Netiquette is the combination of two words: "net" and " etiquette" with "net" short for the "internet". Netiquette applies common courtesy and etiquette practices to the internet. It is a set of guidelines for civil electronic communication and covers e-mail, discussion forums, blogs, online communities and instant messaging.
Privacy on the Internet: The Internet is our modern public forum and all communications you create should be treated as public, viewable by anyone. Be cautious about revealing personal information. Think about the perception someone forms about you from the information you make public. More importantly, think about how they could use it against you.
Safety on the Internet: Safe computing practices are designed to keep your system running properly and free of unwanted programs commonly called "virus" and "spyware". As a group, these programs are often called "malware". They can disrupt your system, invade your privacy and cause you to lose important information. Sophisticated virus programs can scan your address book and send unauthorized email to your contacts thereby infecting them. Netiquette includes keeping yourself safe so that those you interact with are also safe.
