How to Download & Unzip Files from the Internet
To Download from Internet Explorer:
- right-click on the link
- select "save target as"
- navigate to the folder where you want to save the file
To unzip after downloading:
- right-click on the zip file within Windows Explorer (My Computer)
- from "folder view" select "extract" or "extract all"
- follow the prompts
Project 1 - Create a Real Estate Flyer
Project Specifications:
Start with a new blank document and create the real estate flyer shown in the link below.
Use these options and pictures:
- Set all page margins to .75”
- Enter all text by typing
(hint: check your paragraph spacing, enter the text first, then pictures) - “For Sale” Heading font: Times New Roman, 80 pt
- Sub-heading (address): Arial 20 pt
- All other text: Arial 12pt
- Center the Heading and Sub-Heading
- Use bold and bullets to match the page design
- Resize the main picture to be 6" wide (hint: inline text wrapping)
- The main picture style is “Metal Oval”
- The other picture styles are “Soft Edge Oval” (hint: wrap text)
- The "Contact" information should be placed in the footer, centered
Insert the following pictures:

Project 2 - Create a Newsletter
Project Specifications:
Create a 1 page newsletter containing 3 articles using the following options:
- Create a new Word document
- Set all margins to .5"
- Use the text in this link - newsletter.txt
- The fonts are:
- page title: Arial, 36
- article headings: Arial 14
- body text: Calibri 11
- Create a 2 column design with .3" between the columns
- The column alignment is "justify"
- The page title shading is: Red, Accent2, Darker 25%
- The page border is a double line, 1/2 pt
- Insert the following 3 images and re-size them to 50% of their original size
- Place the pictures and complete the layout using the finished page link below as a guide
Project 3 - Create a Certificate Mail Merge
Project Specifications:
Start with a downloaded template and merge the names from the data file to the certificate. Use these options:
- Download the award certificate template called "Membership certificate" from Microsoft Office Online
- Customize the certificate as follows:
- change the "good standing" date to January 1, 2010
- change the "signed this" day the the current day
- enter "Computer Club" for "is a member of"
- "Frank Asciutto" is the President
- enter your name as the Secretary
- Start the mail merge, letters option
- Use the Data.xls file as the data source
- Insert the Merge Fields "First Name" and "Last Name" into the document under "This certifies that"
- Be sure to separate the first and last names by a space
- Complete the merge
